April 10: Michaels Cameras

One of our newer members, Michaels is home to a world famous Camera Museum, offering a voyage through time which includes some of the most recognised, rare, unique and iconic cameras since the late 1800’s. Michaels Camera Museum consists of more than 10,000 items, of which approximately 3,000 are on display at any one time. Rich in history, the Camera Museum is a unique experience, right in the heart of Melbourne.

Our April Social will be held on Wednesday April 10, from 6:30pm.

May 6: The Melbourne Athenaeum Library

Another of our new members, The Melbourne Athenaeum was founded in 1839 as the Melbourne Mechanics' Institution. Its purpose was "the diffusion of literary, scientific and other useful knowledge to members and the general public" and this was achieved by maintaining a library, museum and reading room, and offering classes and lectures.

Come and learn a little about the history of the building and its role in the development of Melbourne as Australia's cultural capital.

This event is free for City Precinct members.


One of our major undertakings in 2018-19 was our Precinct Photography Project.

We understand the importance for small businesses to invest in professional photography, and we also understand that the cost involved for many businesses can be prohibitive. Our photography project provided businesses the opportunity to have their businesses photographed, and provided a package of images for each business to use across their social media platforms, included as part of their City Precinct membership.

Our 2019 roster of social evenings is shaping up to be really impressive, with our first guest speaker for the year being Jess Ruhfus, the founder of Collabosaurus - a marketing platform that facilitates mutually beneficial collaborations for brands.

Collabosaurus now has attracted over 5,000+ brand partnership opportunities , with members in Australia, New Zealand, America, Canada and the UK. It works just like a dating site to ‘match make’ businesses of all shapes and sizes for effective partnerships in events, social media and products. Not just limited to our product-based business members, collaborations can be a great way for service-based businesses, hospitality venues and many others to increase brand awareness, get content created and collaborate on limited edition events and products, all at a rate much lower than if they attempted to do so on their own.

With collaboration marketing costing up to 30x less than digital marketing, it has become one of the most cost-effective ways for small businesses to grow their customer base and increase brand awareness. In her presentation, Jess covered some of the main collaboration types: social media competitions and content creation, product collaborations, and event collaborations.

For our small and independent business members, collaborations can be a fantastic way to test a new concept while sharing the cost with one or more collaboration partners. We loved the idea so much, we'll be running a few social media competitions of our own - watch this space!
