Last Wednesday, Jane Matthews, one half of Melbourne’s destination fashion boutique Swensk, warmly welcomed us into their unique retail space located at Shop 1/230 Little Collins Street.

Surrounded by beautiful Swedish garments, in conversation with Sally Mackinnon of Styled by Sally, Jane generously offered us an insight into the humble beginnings of Swensk. Sally and Jane discussed the unique values and strategic approach that has helped develop Swensk into a long standing independent business, with a strong identity and a dedicated following.

As we devoured Ugandan chocolate tartlets with salted caramel from our friends at polēpolē, we learnt about the importance of location, the benefits of taking a highly analytical approach to business and why genuine and honest customer service should never be underestimated.

Jane is an advocate for the clustering of like minded businesses to form destination precincts and encourages business owners, and furthermore, landlords to see the enormous potential in this.

Attendees also got a first look at our exciting new brochures, currently available from our Small Business in the Big City Info Hub Activation at The Melbourne Town Hall. Find out more, here.

Thank you again to Jane for sharing her valuable insight with us, we are thrilled to have Swensk join the City Precinct community!

Many thanks of course also to Sally for conducting the interview and to polēpolē for feeding us!
